Higg: Sustainability Insights Platform for Apparel and Consumer Goods

Higg: Insights Platform

A decade ago, it was hard for consumer goods businesses to know where to start with sustainability. How do you assess your suppliers? How do you compare one material to another? How do you make sense of the data, and connect it back to your efforts at improvement?

Created in 2010 by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, the Higg Index is a common language for supply chain sustainability.

Launched a few years later, Higg was the similarly-named technology behind the methodology: providing primary data on manufacturers, materials, and supply chains in apparel, textiles, and footwear.

As Senior Director of Brand and Content, I was responsible for helping the tech platform grow beyond its nonprofit roots as a user-first software solution.

shifting to a user-first STORY

I developed an interim brand identity and refreshed all customer messaging, with examples below. This required close partnership with the product, data, and technology teams — working to shift the company’s emphasis away from ‘how it works’ to lead with the ‘why’ (particularly as we expanded from technical early adopters to a broader market).

 

LAUNCHING B2C PRODUCTS

I also led product naming, copywriting, and contributed to UX design for the first B2C products developed by Higg and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition.

 

crafting a new corporate narrative

In 2022, I developed much of the pitch narrative and collateral for our $50M Series B funding round. I also partnered with the CEO/founder to adapt this narrative into an internal vision statement.

These projects then flowed into our corporate relaunch as Worldly, a complete rebrand of our legacy identity which I also led.
